Electrochlorination is a simple and proven technology to convert ordinary salt water [or brine or seawater] into Sodium Hypochlorite by means of Electrolysis. It is produced and applied on site. The device which uses this technology is named as Electrochlorinator or Onsite Hypo Generator.
Sodium Hypochlorite is universally accepted for combating slime, algae and other Bio-organisms in Water. The most important aspect of Sodium Hypochlorite usage is its economy effectiveness in killing bio organisms thereby disinfecting water. Electrochlorinators find application where Chlorine is not readily available or where operation with chlorine is not acceptable. Electrochlorinators therefore, find application in Drinking Water Treatment, Cooling Water Treatment, Waste Water Treatment, Bleaching, Pharmaceutical formulations and other industrial applications.
Principle of sodium hypochlorite generator
Salt solution contains the several kinds of ions such as Na +, H -, when electrolysis, under a certain voltage, as a result of the movement of ions in the electrolyte solution and electrode reaction, the conductive effect occurs, then CL -, OH - such as negative ion to the anode, and positive ions such as Na +, H + to the cathode, and the corresponding electrode discharge occurs, thus carries on the REDOX reaction, the corresponding material production. The electrode reaction and solution reactions is
anode: 2Cl- - 2e → Cl2；
cathode: 2H+ + 2e → H2；
2NaOH + Cl2 → NaCl + NaClO + H2O
Overall reaction as follow:
Na Cl + H2O + DC →NaClO + H2↑
