Ultra Violet (UV) Sterilization Systems
Ultra Violet (UV) is an effective way to treat harmful bacterium. Our Ultra Violet systems use the latest technology to ensure you get the most effective solution to your disinfection needs. Ultra Violet systems are normally used on water where e-coli and coliform are present or have been present in the past. The system is placed in your main water line where a UV bulb is in a clear sleeve. The water then flows by the lamp and the light from the bulb kills the bacteria. YOU MUST put a sediment filter of some type BEFORE any UV light.
What Contaminants Do UV Sterilizers Remove?
There are no micro-organisms known to be resistant to UV, unlike chlorination. UV is known to be highly effective against bacteria, viruses, algae, molds and yeasts, and disease causing oocysts like cryptosporidium and giardia. In practice, bacteria and viruses are the cause of most major waterborne pathogenic diseases. Of these enteric viruses, hepatitis virus and Legionella pneumophila have been shown to survive for considerable periods in the presence of chlorine, but are readily eliminated by UV treatment. For most microorganisms, the removal efficiency of UV for microbiological contaminants such as bacteria and virus generally exceeds 99.99%.
How Does UV Disinfection System Work?
In the UV water disinfection technology, the UV light disinfects by penetrating microorganisms and destroying their DNA. DNA plays an important role in organisms’ functions and reproduction hence destroying the DNA prevents the organism from being active and multiplying. This UV energy (wavelength of 240-280 nm) is also naturally found in sunlight in very small quantities. The same energy is produced in stronger intensities with help of high mercury discharge lamps, commonly known as UV lamps.
